[TRAGIC]: A Pregnant Woman Has Been Killed In A Bus Accident

A pregnant woman was killed in a bus accident that took place at about 9 a.m. in Ibadan, in front of the Agodi Police Division.

Eyewitnesses say that, prior to the tragic accident, the bus driver was flagged down by a female police officer while coming from Iwo Road. While the two were struggling for the wheel (with the policewoman trying to take control over steering to stop the bus), a commercial motorcycle with the expectant mother moved in front of the vehicle, and the passenger was knocked down.

The woman died on the spot, bleeding profusely. Officials of the  Information Unit, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, say she was brought in already dead.

Sources say angry local residents blamed the police officer for the incident, and tried to attack the police station. However, policemen from other stations and men of the Operation Burst were deployed in the area to prevent violence.

About an hour after the unfortunate accident, traces of the victim's blood, slippers and Muslim rosary still remained at the scene.

Passers-by were asked to raise their hands to signify peaceful intentions.

However, police officials deny allegations that the driver was intercepted by a police officer. According to his version, hoodlums suspected to be members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) attempted to stop the bus and extort money from the driver. The driver subsequently lost control of the vehicle and ran over a pedestrian.

Then, oficials say, an angry mob attempted to lynch the driver and burn the bus, but police officers took the driver to the station. Then, locals started throwing stones into the station, demanding to release the driver, as they did not believe appropriate measures would be taken.
