HTC Smartphone Saves A Man's Life

A well-placed smart phone has saved the life of a gas station attendant in Florida, USA.

A photo released by the police shows a bullet hole in the phone screen and a bulge at the back where the bullet protruded

There’s no doubt cell phones have made life infinitely easier, but one man realized just how helpful they can be when an HTC smartphone saved his life.

Early Monday morning, a gas station clerk was aiding a customer in finding a specific drink when the customer pulled a gun and demanded that the clerk open the safe.

The clerk was unable to do so, and a second clerk was given the same instruction.

Neither clerk was able to unlock the safe and the gunman left, but not before firing off a single shot.

Police were immediately called to the Hess gas station in Winter Garden, Florida.

While they were interviewing the clerk to gather information, he complained of chest pains. Until then, no one noticed that he had been shot.

According to police accounts, he survived the attempted armed robbery thanks in part to his cell phone, which was stashed in his chest pocket.

“So they started looking at the clerk. That’s when they realized that the guy had actually shot at him, hit him, struck his cell phone, and the cell phone had stopped his bullet,” Winter Garden Police Lt. Scott Allen said.

The clerk was taken to the hospital, but was quickly released with no injuries.

The chest pain he complained of was due to the blunt force of the bullet hitting the phone. His HTC smartphone, however, didn’t fare so well.

The screen is shattered and bullet is lodged into the phone. The other clerk was not harmed.

“I’ve seen individuals get shot with low-caliber handguns and I’ve seen it be life ending.

So, for this gentleman to be as lucky as he is, it’s a good day for us,” Allen said.

This isn’t the first time an HTC phone has saved a man’s life from a bullet. In 2011, a valet at an Atlanta night club was shot by two men.

According to the Associated Press, one of the bullets may have done some serious damage had it not been stopped by the man’s HTC, also located in his chest pocket.

Reports from this case indicate that the phone’s battery kept the bullet from doing any harm.

The lesson from this story is simple: be carefull with your smartphone, one day it may save your life!

'Don't Take The Police For Granted' Inspector General Of Police Tells Banks

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, blamed commercial banks for deliberately delaying payment of monthly salaries to police personnel, threatened to withdraw police accounts domiciled in some of them. The banks ‘under fire’ are First Bank, Skye Bank, UBA and Zenith Bank.

Police Force spokesman, Frank Mba, read the appropriate statement by the IGP in Abuja on October 30, 2013, Wednesday.

The IGP described the failure by the banks to release the salaries as a conspiracy against the Force.

MD Abubakar said the situation has continued to expose police officers and men to undue pressure and extreme difficulties.

“The IGP warned the banks and their personnel of the dire consequences, including, but not limited to a reconsideration of the existing relationship between the Force and the banks if the situation persists,” the statement said.

The police boss was particularly irked that the Federal Government has been releasing police salaries early enough, only for the banks to deliberately delay payment.

The statement added that with the e-payment system currently in place, all police officers receive their salaries directly through the banks. 

Gov. Rochas Okorocha Says 'The Igbo Cultural Heritage Must Be Promoted And Preserved'

The Governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha has called on South East geo-political zone to establish cultural centres for the preservation, documentation and promotion of Igbo cultural heritage.

Gov. Okorocha made the call in Owerri on October 30, 2013, Wednesday.

The Governor inspected the state’s Cultural Centre on Aba-Owerri road, Naze, for the people of Owerri Zone, and emphasised in his speech that the centre was for the promotion of peace, culture, and unity of people in the state.

He expressed worry that most Igbo do not appreciate their culture as most of them now imitate foreign cultures.

Gov. Okorocha stressed the need for drastic measures to be taken to ensure that certain aspects of Igbo cultures do not go into extinction.

“Culture is our heritage; we owe it as a duty to bequeath it to the next generation. We must do everything to promote, preserve and document it for the next generation.

“If we fail in this responsibility, they will not forgive us. It is their right. My government attaches high premium to it”, he said.

Gov. Okorocha said the promotion of culture should be a collective responsibility, adding that the project would be replicated in Orlu and Okigwe zones of the state.

FAAN Admits They Bought 2 Armored Cars For Stella Oduah

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Hope Uzodinma, on Wednesday said the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) purchased two armoured vehicles for its Managing Director and another two for the embattled minister, Princess Stella Oduah.

Uzodinma spoke to newsmen on the sidelines of the investigation into the purchase of two armoured vehicles by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for Aviation Minister Stella Oduah.

He said that FAAN Managing Director, Mr George Uriesi, told the committee on oath that his agency purchased 202 operational cars and two bullet-proofs cars for the office of the managing director.

 “Uriesi did confirm that among the operational vehicles they purchased, four of them are armored vehicles, two for the managing director and two for the minister.

“We told them to go back and put everything in writing and make comprehensive statements on all vehicles purchased.

“They bought a total number of 202 vehicles for different operations so until they come back on Monday we cannot rush into conclusion.

“The managing director of FAAN said they did a funding arrangement with a commercial bank,’’ he said.

Uzodinma, who said investigations were still ongoing, promised that the committee was committed to undertake a holistic probe to ensure that all anomalies were corrected to reposition the sector.

He quoted the FAAN managing director as saying that the Minister of Aviation gave approval for the purchase of the armoured vehicles.

The Senate Committee on Aviation had on 29 October queried FAAN over the purchase of four bullet-proof cars for use by the managing director

Uriesi told the committee that the vehicles included two Lexus Limousine cars and two Prado jeeps.

He said that contrary to insinuations, the limousines were purchased at the cost N60 million each and not N70 million.

Uriesi, who said that he did not have details of the cost of the Prado jeeps, however, said the vehicles were still in the custody of the bankers which funded the purchase.

The committee ordered the managing director to appear before it on Nov. 4, with comprehensive details of the transaction and the documents for all the purchases.

Cristiano Ronaldo has accused Sepp Blatter of institutional favouritism after the FIFA President revealed he preferred Lionel Messi over the Portuguese

In a debate at the Oxford Union, the 77-year-old claimed “one spends more time at the hairdressers than the other” in reference to Ronaldo, before saying he preferred Messi, as well as describing him as a “kind man and a good boy”.

The comments have resulted in Real Madrid writing to FIFA  to call for Blatter to apologise over the remarks.  Ronaldo giving his own personal reaction via his personal Twitter account, alongside a video of the Swiss making fun of him.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti  described  Blatter’s comments  about Ronaldo as showing a “lack of respect”.

Ancelotti was asked about Blatter’s comments at his press conference ahead of Wednesday’s match with Sevilla, and was quoted as having said on Madrid’s official website, “I’m aware our president (Florentino Perez) has sent a letter to FIFA asking to retract what I consider to be a lack of respect to a very serious, very professional player.

Chris Brown Finally Goes To Rehab

Chris Brown has checked himself into rehabilitation center to "gain focus and insight into his past and recent behaviour" after he had been arrested for allegedly assaulting a man on October 27.

The singer, aged 24, who was arrested after punching a man outside the hotel, has decided to seek for medical help by checking into a treatment facility on Tuesday October 29, 2013.

Representative of the celebrity told the journalists:

"His [Chris's] goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behaviour, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."

According to the reports regarding the incident on October 27, Chris broke the man's nose when the unidenitified male and a friend attempted to insert themselves in a picture he was taking with two females. 

The star’s lawyer insists he is not guilty.

The crooner was supposed to co-headline a concert with girl band Danity Kane at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on Tuesday but he cancelled the gig ahead of checking into rehab.

Chris is still on probation for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna, 25, in February 2009 and his latest arrest could be deemed a violation of his probation, resulting in a potential four-year prison sentence.

Jay Jay Okocha To Participate In The All Star Game Scheduled In Anambra Sate

Former Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen, Emma Okocha  and Austin Okocha have confirmed their participation in the All Star game in Nanka, Anambra State on Friday.

[SHOCKING]: A Man Burns His Bible Saying That Would Free Him From A Homosexual Demon

Jamell Anderson is being held at the Oklahoma county prison after he went ballistic, burning a Bible at his home, ripping his door off the hinges and pouring salt and soap all over his bloody body, complaining of a homosexual demon.

The police officers had to use a sledgehammer in order to bust open the door of Anderson's house.

When they finally burst through they saw the walls were all in blood, bleach and other ‘substances’.

Anderson told the police to throw down their weapons so he could fist fight him. In the smoke hanging in the apartment, officers shot the man with tasers, which Anderson ripped out and screamed that they would have no effect on him.

Later the accused man said to the officers that he was possessed by a‘homosexual demon’.

Officers subdued him, putting out the bible that Anderson had set on fire.

When he finally came to his senses he told the police that he “wasn’t gay, just high”.

According to the police, the man later made a confession: if he had a gun he would have killed his neighbors and shot the police when they arrived.

A 48-Year Old Man And His Girlfriend Kidnap His 9 Year Old Son To Generate Money

A 48-year-old man, yesterday, at the Lagos State command of the Department of State Services, DSS, gave a starling revelation of how he masterminded the kidnap of his nine-year-old son in Badagry area of Lagos.

The suspect, Adeyinka Adebayo, who admitted to have connived with his 28-year-old girlfriend, Kehinde Alonge, said he committed the act to generate money from his church members.

 

He added that the supposed ransom was to meet up with his girlfriend's demand.

 

Parading the suspect alongside his girlfriend before journalists, the Director, Lagos State Command, DSS, Mr. Victor Achu, explained that Adebayo had on October 3 reported at the command that his son had been kidnapped.

 

Achu said: "The command swung into action. Preliminary investigations confirmed the kidnap of the boy by one Kehinde Alonge, who demanded a ransom of N350,000 for his release and directed that the money be paid into a UBA account.

 

"The account was later discovered to be owned by one Taiwo Faloye. After series of tactical planning, the owner of the account and Kehinde were arrested at Ilesha, Osun State, while trying to withdraw the money."

A mild drama, however, unfolded following an argument between Adebayo and his girlfriend over who brought up the kidnap plan.

 

While Adebayo claimed that Kehinde hatched the plan to get the N200,000 she needed to open a hairdressing saloon, the later interrupted, stating that "he is lying. I was in Ilesha when he called me to come to Lagos that some people owed him money.

 

"He said the only way to collect the money from them was for me to come and take his son away, while he pretends that he had been kidnapped.

 

"I came to Lagos on October 4. I intended going to the school to pick the boy, but Adebayo advised I picked him from the house.

 

"Since the children knew me, I told the boy to follow me to get something outside and entered the next available vehicle to Ilesha, Osun State. His father even gave me N3,000 for transport.

 

"When we got to Ilesha, he sent another N3,750 worth of recharge cards for his feeding. He even called his son on phone daily. He was the one that asked me to demand N350,000.

 

"However, at the end of the bargain, he said I should accept N200,000. Since I had no bank account, I asked one of my relatives to give me his account details. But we were arrested at the point of withdrawal."

 

'She needed money'

However, Adebayo, a father of two, said: "My girlfriend said she needed money to open her own hair dressing saloon. Since I was not financially buoyant, I decided to raise money by masterminding my son's kidnap.

"I am a vulcanizer and business had not been booming. Anyone I approached for money usually declined to assist me.

"To get money from my church members in particular, I had to mastermind my son's kidnap.

"He spent nine days at my girlfriend's house. At the end of the day, I was able to raise N450,000 from my church members and friends, who earlier refused to help me.

"I regret my action because my son may never forgive me if he is told. I feel ashamed also because his mother has been down with stroke, though we are no longer married.

"I beg to be forgiven. It was the handiwork of the devil."

The suspects, according to Ochu, would be charged to court.
